In 2025, Swiss startup Sun-Ways installed 48 removable solar panels across 100 metres of active railway tracks in Buttes. More than 11,000 trains have since passed over the installation, which has generated over 16,000 kWh of electricity. The three-year pilot is testing whether unused railway space can safely produce renewable energy without disrupting operations.
