In a bid to regulate the liquor trade, the West Bengal government has raised the distance criteria for new liquor outlets from educational institutions and places of worship. Urban areas will now need to maintain a 500-meter distance, while rural areas must ensure a full kilometer. Existing outlets remain unaffected by these changes, which also grant provisions for relocating under specific circumstances.
