SC exempts Class 6 from CBSE 3rd-lang rule

The Supreme Court has directed the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) to extend to Class VI students the same exemption from the Class X Board examination in the newly implemented “third language” that is currently available to students in Classes VII and VIII under the new three-language scheme.This means current Class VI students will study the third language as mandated by CBSE but will not have to appear for a CBSE Board examination in that language when they reach Class X, as is presently provided for students in Classes VII and VIII.The court has also extended to Class VI students the same relaxation available to the current Classes VII and VIII batches for those already studying two non-native languages.Such students can continue with their existing two-language combination and take one additional Bharatiya Bhasha as the third language, instead of being required to change one of their existing languages to accommodate the two regional languages.
