Haryana Police to recruit 20,000 personnel

The Haryana Police plans to recruit around 20,000 personnel next year as the department works to address a vacancy rate of about 26%, Director General of Police Ajay Singhal said on Monday.The recruitment drive will follow the appointment of around 5,500 personnel this year. The facility was built at a cost of Rs 4.5 crore by the Haryana Police Housing Corporation.New police stations and housing units in HaryanaHaryana has added several police facilities this year. Singhal said eight police stations, three police chowkis, nine police buildings and 313 police housing units have been constructed across the state.Construction is currently underway on two police stations, five police buildings and 565 housing units.Under the new budget, the state plans to construct 11 police stations, five police posts, one police line and 695 additional housing units.Haryana Police steps up action against gangsters and extortionOn extortion cases, Singhal said the police would take strict action against those attempting to create fear among the public.He also said action was being taken against gangsters operating from abroad. According to the DGP, 25 gangsters have been deported to India over the past two years.Anti-Narcotics Task Force to tackle drug smugglingSinghal said neighbouring Punjab was the source of the highest volume of drug smuggling into Haryana. An Anti-Narcotics Task Force has been constituted to tackle drug trafficking, he said.The DGP added that the Union Home Ministry was also taking the issue seriously.Haryana Police expands women’s safety measuresThe state has 33 women police stations, along with a CCTV network and the 112 app, as part of its measures to improve women’s safety.Durga Shakti patrol vehicles have also been deployed near schools and colleges. Singhal said an app with trip-tracking facilities for working women was also being launched.Cybercrime cases have declined, says DGPSinghal described cybercrime as a new challenge for the police but said incidents had declined over the past two years.He also addressed questions about the death of Yuvraj Manchanda, a young man from Delhi, in Gurugram. The DGP said the court had taken cognisance of the matter and that an investigation would establish whether there were any lapses. Appropriate action would be taken based on its findings, he said.DGP reviews policing and law-and-order arrangementsDuring his Gurugram visit, Singhal attended programmes covering policing, law and order, police welfare and coordination between the police and the public.He also met police personnel and their families at a welfare meeting at the Community Hall in Police Lines, Gurugram. Later, he held discussions with the Police Commissioner, Deputy Commissioners of Police, Assistant Commissioners of Police and Station House Officers on policing arrangements, crime control, law and order and public safety.Singhal also interacted with prominent citizens at the Traffic Police Tower.
