Getty acquires rediscovered Velázquez portrait, first by master in collection

The J. Paul Getty Museum has proudly added a remarkable 17th-century portrait by Diego Velázquez to its esteemed collection. Titled Portrait of the Count-Duke of Olivares, this artwork was recently uncovered from a private collection, marking the museum's first acquisition of a Velázquez piece. Originally commissioned for Cardinal Francesco Barberini during the 1620s, this masterpiece will debut at the Getty Center before touring to the Detroit Institute of Arts.
