California plans Joshua tree wildlife crossings to protect desert animals

Two wildlife crossings are planned over State Route 62 near Joshua Tree National Park in California’s Mojave Desert. The projects aim to reconnect fragmented habitats and reduce wildlife-vehicle collisions. Researchers are studying bighorn sheep, mountain lions and bobcats to guide the designs, with more than $6 million in grants supporting engineering, environmental studies and planning.
