Anthropic’s Claude finds new CRISPR-like system in viruses

Anthropic says its Claude AI has discovered ART, a previously uncharacterised enzyme system in bacteriophages with a CRISPR-like repeat array. Around 950 Claude agents searched DNA data for 21 hours to find it. CEO Dario Amodei says its function and significance aren't clear yet, but calls it work he would have been proud to do as a PhD student. CRISPR pioneer Feng Zhang says it merits further study.
